I kern 7 point type. I illustrate with finger paint. And I love a good challenge.

My name is Tippi Thole, and I’m a designer, photographer, art director and journalist. I discovered design as a photojournalism student at the University of Missouri, and it’s been part of my journalistic arsenal ever since. I enjoy thinking about the big picture, being creative and solving problems. I love to brainstorm and collaborate with anyone who’s willing to play along. And I constantly strive to engage readers with pages that are surprising, clever, beautiful and funny.

I most recently worked as an art director at The Washington Post. Before that, I was lucky enough to work at lots of great magazines and newspapers, including Smithsonian magazine, National Geographic, the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

I now live in Montreal, Quebec, and work as an independent visual journalist available for contract work and special projects. I also run my own design business, Bright Spot Studio, where I get to help independent creatives do what they love. If you’re looking for positively smart design, please get in touch.

When I’m not designing, I’m sharing ways to live more sustainably at Tiny Trash Can. You can find my zero waste tips me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Thanks for visiting!
